With summer quickly fading away, we’ve already found the best way to honor its memory. Quite possibly the most delicious summer drink, The John Daly is also super easy to whip up. Named for golf’s favorite good ole’ boy, this simple mixed drink comes from everyone’s favorite G-Rated refresher, The Arnold Palmer. For those of you who live under a rock, the Arnold Palmer is a simple mix of lemonade and iced tea, popular in clubhouses across the country. The mix was a favorite of golf great, Arnold Palmer; thus the name.
John Daly burst onto the golf scene in 1987 but made a splash in 1991 when he won the PGA Championship and again in 1995 with a win at the Open Championship. With a quick ascent to fame came a quicker fall from grace. He soon developed off-course issues, many of which stemmed from alcohol abuse. That brings us to the darker side of golf’s favorite refreshment:
The John Daly
- 1.5 oz Vodka
- 1 part Lemonade
- 1 part Iced Tea
Choose a glass (we suggest a mason jar), add your vodka and a few ice cubes. Then fill the glass halfway with lemonade before topping it off with your iced tea. Donezo. [Some fancy folk like to add a splash of orange juice in homage to Daly’s favorite color.]
